TYPOGRAPHY CHRISTMAS LECTURE

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Phil Baines just sent me through the poster for my talk next week at Central St Martin’s by Kate Goodridge & Agostino Carrea. I absolutely love it!

WOMEN IN LOVE

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

I was introduced to Ken Russell at a young age in the mid 70’s, I remember one Christmas I saw in the tv times that ‘Women in Love’ was on, it sounded like a nice period film and so I sat down with my granny to watch it and it was actually quite different to the description and I was very embarrassed, I think my granny just thought it was funny. But I went on to watch many more of Ken’s films, I liked his films alot. RIP KEN RUSSELL.

SPREAD THE COLOUR

Saturday, November 26th, 2011

For one of my projects, I am getting screen printed wallpaper produced in 8 colours, the printer uses dulux colours and so I spent this afternoon getting my match pots out and trying out 19 colours to ensure I get exactly the colours I want. I did well but I have to get a better pink and a more olive green, not bad 6 out of 8.

ON THE WALL

Saturday, November 26th, 2011

(I am still catching up with posts.) Here we are completing the record installation at The Old Vinyl Factory. Very satisfying!

TOE-TAPPING WEEKEND

Saturday, November 26th, 2011

I am so pleased with my ‘Clementine’, Church’s shoe purchase today, I have been wearing them all day. I even made the effort and went into New Bond Street first thing this morning when the shop opened to make sure I got the right size. They are wonderful and comfy and now I am ready for the winter. I feel like I have slightly reverted back to my school days as I always wore this type of shoe not so posh I must add, worn with ankle socks!

CENTRAL ST MARTINS AT KINGS CROSS

Friday, November 18th, 2011

WOW! Last night was the launch of the new Central St Martins campus, what an incredible place it could not be further away from the St Martin’s experience I had many moons ago, Foundation in Charing Cross Road, and then BA in the old Banana Warehouse in Long Acre. I will be back on the 5th of December to do the Christmas Typographic talk.

DOODLE BUG

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

Yesterday I was in such a long meeting, instead of falling asleep I kept myself busy. I just love 3-d letters at the moment, my favourite is the ‘A’ that I am going to develop further.

RECORD LABELS

Saturday, November 12th, 2011

I spent several weeks, ebaying for over 1,000 — 7″ records for a big installation at The Old Vinyl Factory, it was really strange buying peoples collections of tunes and thinking of how much pocket money had been saved and spent on these very formative moments in time. We spent quite a few hours reminiscing and it is now a pretty great collection which immediately sparks off conversations.

BLACK DESK AT THE OLD VINYL FACTORY

Saturday, November 12th, 2011

We have been so super busy I ran out of time to get all our posts up and so I am going to do a few retrospective ones. This desk is very important to me as I did not realise how much you have to battle with suppliers to produce very simple forms but I got there in the end! The desk is made from Onyx staron. We will be getting some new pics done of the whole project soon.

DECK THE HALLS

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

We just received some sample letters for a school project we are working on. The sign manufacturers hope it won’t go through as it is very laborious to do but obviously hope it does because we like it!
