BETTY’S CUSHIONS FOR AHMM

December 17th, 2011

My Mum, Betty Fraser Myerscough, was commissioned by the staff of Allford Hall Monaghan Morris to design and make cushions for the four partners. Each cushion is an abstract version of one of their buildings. From top row left to right: Angel Building, Crown Street Building, Westminster Academy, Barbican Centre

OLD TIMER

December 12th, 2011

I was doing some work on a project the other day which had a swatch watch in it and then it reminded me I had designed one way back in 1992/93. It was called  ’scribble’ I never liked the name! I had worked in Milan a couple of years earlier and met Allessandro Mendini and when I returned to London he invited me to design a swatch and this is the one that was produced, and it still seems to exist which feels strange.

A is for …..

December 5th, 2011

My first letter complete, others on the way. Now need to think of a name for my font.

SKETCH

December 5th, 2011

I spent the weekend starting to draw the whole alphabet sparked off by my doodle sketch a couple of weeks ago. I am starting to get obsessed with it and it is distracting me!

REUSE

December 2nd, 2011

We had a long wall in LCC Typo Caff and all the letters lovingly painted from the summer shows, so why not reuse. We had limited selection of letters so played around with different words and finally settled on ‘WORD BANDIT’.

TYPOGRAPHY CHRISTMAS LECTURE

Phil Baines just sent me through the poster for my talk next week at Central St Martin’s by Kate Goodridge & Agostino Carrea. I absolutely love it!

WOMEN IN LOVE

November 29th, 2011

I was introduced to Ken Russell at a young age in the mid 70’s, I remember one Christmas I saw in the tv times that ‘Women in Love’ was on, it sounded like a nice period film and so I sat down with my granny to watch it and it was actually quite different to the description and I was very embarrassed, I think my granny just thought it was funny. But I went on to watch many more of Ken’s films, I liked his films alot. RIP KEN RUSSELL.

SPREAD THE COLOUR

November 26th, 2011

For one of my projects, I am getting screen printed wallpaper produced in 8 colours, the printer uses dulux colours and so I spent this afternoon getting my match pots out and trying out 19 colours to ensure I get exactly the colours I want. I did well but I have to get a better pink and a more olive green, not bad 6 out of 8.
